On-the-Spot Painting Competition at Kashmir Lavender Festival

Kashmir - 24th June 2014: Six day Kashmir Lavender Festival and Art Camp which was jointly inaugurated by Dr Jyotsna Singh, Director, Dara Shikoh Centre for Arts and Dr Tej Pratap, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST (Kashmir) on 24th June, 2014 is attracting a large number of visitors from all over India which include entrepreneurs, farmers, industrialists involved in the cultivation and value addition of aroma chemicals, general public, both domestic and foreign tourists and students from local schools and colleges. People are evincing great interest in the innovative and value added aroma products being exhibited by the local entrepreneurs. Large number of visitors are being provided opportunity to visit experimental fields of IIIM in Bonera (Pulwama) and Yarikha (Tangmarg) for self guided tours of vast lavender fields and on farm demonstration of end to end technology regarding lavender with distillation facility as well. In addition 40 probationers of Indian Forest Service (2013-15 batch) also visited Lavender festival as a part of their study tour to J&K state.

On the sidelines of this festival, from 25-27 June, an on-the-spot painting competition for school students with nature as theme was organized. In this competition more than two hundred students from local educational Institutes participated under sub junior, Junior & senior categories. The prize winners under different categories are as under:

Sub-Junior Category: First Prize: Ayla Parvaiz (DPS-Srinagar); Second Prize: Aairah (DPS-Srinagar); Third Prize: Waqar Shabir (Tyndale Biscoe), Consolation Prize: Wamiq Ajaz Wani and Umar from (Burn Hall School)

Junior Category: First Prize: Jaliya Hakim (DPS- Budgam); Second Prize: Vaneesa Munir (DPS- Budgam); Third Prize: Aiman Moin (DPS- Budgam); Consolation Prize: Mariyam Ibrahim (DPS- Budgam) and Syeda Nameera Qadri (Mallinson Girls School)

Senior Category: First Prize: Bareen (GCW, Srinagar); Second Prize: Tabasum Mushtaq (GCW, Srinagar); Third Prize: Sumeena (GCW, Srinagar); Consolation Prize: Moris Adam Shahamiri(Burn Hall School) and Ifra Gulzar (Mallinson Girls School).

The prizes will be distributed to winners on 29th June, 2014 during the valedictory function being organized at IIIM, Branch Laboratory, Sanatnagar, Srinagar.
